How to care for your jewels and gems

FAQ and need to know info on our jewelry

All our jewels are hand made by our team of 2 in our home studio, and unless otherwise specified, made to order specifically for you.

The metals we work in primarily are bronze and sterling silver, with bronze being the choice for our gold toned pieces.

Necklaces ordered in bronze are strung up on either gold filled chain, or a gold and enamel plated chain.

A Bit About metals….

When buying gold toned jewelry, it’s important to know what it is you’re buying and wearing beforehand.

Gold filled jewelry is defined as brass jewelry with a heavy gold plating. It is more resistant to tarnishing, though when the gold plating wears off eventually, the brass underneath will tarnish. Tarnishing can be polished off of brass, however it’s best to preserve the plating as long as possible with good care.

Try not to wear your gold filled or bronze pieces in the water, while shower, or while exercising.

Our rings and cuffs are sent in their natural bronze form. We do not plate our pieces unless the option of “gold filled” is purchased at checkout. Due to the copper content in bronze, some people may be prone to “greening”, which is when toxins are drawn out of the skin by the copper, leaving a green colored mark on the skin when worn. Some people green heavily, some people not at all - unfortunately it’s hard to know whether you do or do not until you try on the metal. A simple wash of the skin removes the greening, and it is different from staining left by cheap metals such as nickel or tin.

If you can only wear gold or silver, gold filled is preferable to bronze, however all our pieces are completely nickel free.
